Braves 5, Mariners 3

Box Score

Hey, a road sweep against an American League team. We could feel proud, if the NL weren’t so inferior in every way.

Box Score

I did not expect that. I didn’t think that the Braves had much of a chance, not in that park against that pitching staff, once they went down 3-0 behind a shaky Tommy Hanson, after only getting the minimum plate appearances the first time through the order. Shows what I know.

Brian McCann is the best catcher in baseball game thread: June 28, Braves at Mariners

I don’t really have anything to add except that Brian McCann is the best catcher in baseball.

Sequential offense? Who needs it? The Braves lived by the longball last night, though it helps that they were facing a team with any even worse offense.

Pacific northwest game thread: June 27, Braves at Mariners

Thank god for interleague play, so the Braves can face off with such natural rivals.

Padres 4, Braves 1

Box Score

You just don’t expect Jonny Venters to give up four runs in the eighth inning, especially not to the Padres. The Braves had been living in luck all game, getting out of jam after jam, but their premier escape artist had no luck at all. He walked the leadoff man, then the next batter hit a terrible swinging bunt Venters was unable to field in time to throw to first. A free out sacrifice followed, which Fredi topped with a free baserunner intentional walk. Then things got really weird.

Braves 10, Padres 1

Box Score

What an odd series. Jair Jurrjens was not particularly sharp, but led the entire way and picked up his tenth “win” of the season. The game was close until the eighth, when the Padres apparently ran out of good relievers they were willing to use.

Peremptory game thread: June 24, Braves at Padres

No video because this is being typed on a very creaky machine that can’t handle it.

Braves 5, Blue Jays 1 (again)

Box Score

Maybe winning every game 5-1 would get boring. Let’s try it for a few weeks and find out.

Braves 5, Blue Jays 1

Box Score
An absolute outburst of runs. One more and MRSA would need two hands to count them. The Jays struck first, against Mike Minor, with a double and a single in the first, but Minor held them from there, giving up only three more hits and an intentional walk.

Braves 2, Blue Jays 0

Box Score

Tim Hudson didn’t quite win the game by himself, but that’s largely because he ran out of gas in the ninth. Hudson allowed a hit in the second and a hitter reached on an error. They were the only baserunners that the Jays got before the ninth. Meanwhile, Hudson was the offense, hitting a two-run homer with two out in the seventh, after Dave Ross had been thrown out trying to score from third on a Diory chopper.

Reporting in game thread: June 20, Blue Jays at Braves

Hi, so I’m out of the hospital and in pretty good shape, all things considered. I indeed had a staph infection like Martin Prado’s, in this case MRSA, or “Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus“. That is, a strain resistent to some of the most common antibiotics. I actually was prescribed the correct drug, but (tender imaginations might stop reading here) I developed a large abcess — I compared it to a potato — that served as a reservoir for the bacteria so the antibiotics didn’t reach it all. The surgeon went in and drained the abcess and now the antibotics are working.

Braves 4, Rangers 2

Hey, a win!

The Braves scored three runs in the third inning on a 2-run single from Heyward, who appeared to be awake for this game, and some comically-bad Rangers defense and another run in the seventh on a two-out double off a LOOGY from Freeman, who appears to be out of his little swing-at-everything funk. Jurrjens wasn’t in top form, allowing nine baserunners (and one run) in 5 1/3 innings, but he was pretty solid. The bullpen, other than Scott Proctor, pitched very well. (I have literally no idea why Proctor was brought in to start the seventh in a close game — he predictably gave up as many runs as he recorded outs.)

Rangers 5, Braves 4 (10 innings)

Well, I wasn’t able to watch this one, but it appears that the Braves lost again. They fell behind early, then there was a fairly lengthy rain delay, then they rallied to tie, then they lost in extra innings. They’re awfully frustrating, right now.

Rangers 6, Braves 2

Five runs was more than enough for the Rangers, as the Braves managed only 9 baserunners — Uggla being the only starter not to reach — and scored only on a pair of solo homers, one by McCann in the fourth and one by Freeman in the sixth. Randall Delgado, making is major-league debut, showed flashes but couldn’t make it out of the fifth inning. The Braves also committed three errors, and Jason Heyward needs to cease with the Yunel impersonation.

Nice game thread: June 10, Braves at Astros

People like Fredi Gonzalez. He’s a nice guy.

“Nice guys! Look over there. Do you know a nicer guy than Mel Ott? Or any of the other Giants? Why, they’re the nicest guys in the world! And where are they? In seventh place! Nice guys! I’m not a nice guy – and I’m in first place. The nice guys are all over there, in seventh place.” — Leo Durocher

Obviously, the name “Larry” has worked pretty well for the Braves but Larry Parrish, who is worse at his job than anyone ever, is ruining it.
