Whiny game thread for whiny Jeff Francoeur: July 12, Braves at Padres
Alex and I have always called Julian Tavarez “Pizza Face”. This seems unwarrantedly cruel to someone who has not (yet) violated the Lockhart Line. So I need to rename him with something along those lines but perhaps a little more subtle. So far, the best I can do is “Papa Julian”, but I’m sure you guys can do better.

Don’t forget that Jeff Francoeur is an enormous whiny baby game thread: July 11, Braves at Padres
In the non-whiny baby department, in honor of Greg Maddux, and I guess Gregor Blanco and Greg Norton, the All-Greg Team:

Today is a much-need needed off day for the Bravos and I thought I would make a little update. I’m sorry for the lack of posting lately, but I’ve been lazy and haven’t felt well at all. My sinuses are still bothering me, which is year-round just about, and I’ve started an online class for school this week. Hopefully things will get better because I won’t need to be as lazy now that I have a class to take and pay attention to most days of the week. These late night games have kind of put me off a little as well. Plus, my Internet is still a bit wonky and keeps going in and out for some reason and losing signal. I’m not sure why. We might switch soon, but I’m not completely sure if we will or not yet.

The Atlanta Braves are in a tough situation. They’re 6 games under .500 and dealing with injuries across the board. Several stars the team was depending on are underperforming and there’s no fire in this team’s belly.

I apologize for the lateness of this recap, but sometimes it’s hard to get excited enough to write about this team. Wednesday’s rubber match against the Dodgers was one of those games. The offense once again proved feeble, and dropped another one in an almost pathetic fashion.

You know who sucks? Everybody in the Braves’ lineup, that’s who. Francoeur still sucks, but he hit a solo homer in the eighth inning. This not only was all the runs, it was half the hits the Braves had on the night, as once again the Dodgers flirted with a perfect game — no baserunners through six innings, until Blanco singled leading off the seventh. This is embarrassing.

Remember, everybody — whining works!
Game 91
I’m getting more and more convinced that this team has some sort of a multiple-personality disorder. One night, they’re getting 1-hit by a pitcher with a sub-.500 record. The next, they’re pouring on the runs. Fortunately, tonight was the latter, and the Braves walked away with a solid win with strong performances by mostly everyone.

I’ve mentioned it in the comments, but just to formally announce what the Lockhart Line is and how Jeff Francoeur has crossed it… The core Lockhart Line principle is that when a player acts out publicly in defense of a perceived entitlement to a role on the team, no matter how poorly he is playing, that player is making himself fair game for humorous abuse.

Hi, Andruw game thread: Braves at Dodgers, July 7
This game thread was written in advance. The video is dedicated to Andruw Jones, and not to Jeff Francoeur, who is neither old nor a player I particularly like. Moreover, he should have stayed in Mississippi.

As it has been announced, Chipper will indeed be the starting third baseman in this year’s All-Star game, and deservedly so. Mac will be one of the backups to Geovanny Soto, along with Russell Martin. Here’s one of the stories from SI.com on the whole NL catcher’s deal:

Well, just when I was about to give up on the season, the Braves reel me back in.
While traveling to the Mississippi Braves game last night, a friend and I were listening to the game and we turned it off when Ty Wiggington hit a grand slam to give the Astros a 5-1 lead. When we got to the park, we were surprised to learn the Braves had tied it up. While at the park, the M-Braves gave updates of the game every half inning.

Francoeur finally, at long last, sent to the minors game thread: July 4, Astros at Braves
You all know this by now, of course, but Jeff Francoeur was finally sent to the minors this morning. And he whined about it.
