As bad a night as last night was for the Braves, tonight was that good (ok, it wasn’t THAT good, but close). Last night we lost, for the season, one of the greatest Braves in history. Tonight, one of the greatest Braves in history made his stamp on the record books. Of course, I am referring to Chipper. Chipper hit his 400th career home run. An accomplishment only two other switch hitters have managed. With the way he is hitting, 500 isn’t out of the question. Congrats to Chipper.

A blowout win would be nice.
I noted this in comments yesterday, but check out the difference in Manny Acosta’s pitching in high leverage situations versus the rest of the time. I am generally reluctant to explain such performance differences as psychologically caused, but wow.

Braves Report — published on June 5th, 2008
Today is one of the most important days if not the most important day for the future of the Braves. Today begins the Rule IV amateur draft. Today the Braves get the chance to pick its stars of tomorrow. The future is now.

Braves Report — published on June 4th, 2008
It was announced today that John Smoltz will have season ending surgery on his shoulder on Tuesday. The only question left is whether he will be able to come back in pitch in 2009. If he is unable to then John it has been one hell of a career. If he is able to come back then the Braves will have one of the most valuable players in baseball on the roster.

What a sad day for Braves fans. First we get the news that Smoltz is having season (career?) ending surgery. Smoltz has been the heart and soul of this team for so long, I’m not sure what the team will look like without his day to day presence. If that wasn’t enough bad news, our “temporary” closer, who has been fantastic, couldn’t hold a 2 run lead in the ninth. Hopefully, we will bounce back tomorrow and make it three of four from the fish.

Smoltz will undergo season-ending surgery on his right shoulder. A press conference was held at 11:30 am today and he has said that while he hopes this isn’t the end of his career, he’s not really sure what will happen in the future. This is the last year on his contract and after this season he will be a free agent. I’m sure the Braves will renew his contract for another year if he thinks he is able to pitch again, but who really knows at this point? Smoltz says that he would love to be able to come back and pitch again, but he realizes this could be it. Let’s all hope the best for Smoltzie and hope that the surgery goes well with a successful recovery.

I’ve already mentioned the All-Star game one time, but Mac really deserves to go this year with the way his first half is going. I know that Chicago fans are voting like mad for their catcher Soto, who is also having a great year as well, but Mac has been to the past two All-Star games as a reserve and he deserves to be rewarded per se for his major improvement from last year, which was plagued by injuries but he won’t use those injuries as an excuse because he’s good like that. Mac is only down by 202,717, which isn’t not a low margin, but not unreachable either. With his All-Star thing, you can vote 25 times with one e-mail and then when that runs out, use another e-mail or make a free one solely for this. Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo, wherever, just vote for Mac; he deserves it and fans shouldbust their butts to get him there. This fansite has the right idea: McCann YOU Dig It? I plan on making a bigger All-Star banner for this, so expect to see that soon and vote for Mac however many times you can.

Another day, more late inning heroics give the Braves a win. I’d like to get back to the scoring seven runs in the first and just cruising for the last nine. I find those games less stressful. But, I got to say, if a double in the eighth is what it takes to win, I won’t object!

Greg Norton has started the last five games in a row. I don’t know how to check this, but I have to guess that’s pretty rare for Norton, a player who has only once topped 335 plate appearances in a season. Anyway, what’s remarkable is that he’s, well, not very good. In particular, Norton is (1) a very, very bad outfielder, and (2) a very, very bad hitter from the right side.

The Braves are back home and everything is as it should be. The Braves are winning, balls are leaving the yard and well, isn’t the Braves winning enough? It was a back and forth battle all night, lead changes, blown saves, a very exciting game! Of course the most exciting was Escobar’s walk off, two run home run. While the nick name “World’s Greatest Cuban” hasn’t caught on in the Braves clubhouse (yet), the title “big play” has, and it is well deserved.

Normally, I don’t make girl-y posts on here, and I’m sure this one won’t be the last since I am, in fact, a girl and do have my moments at times. I’ll be honest and admit it. Today we have a video of KJ being interviewed on Braves Live after the game yesterday. With my girl-y, fan girl intuition kicking in, I really have no clue what he’s even saying or the questions being asked, nor do I really and truly care. The deer-caught-in-headlights look in his eyes, his breathy expressions of disappointment, and his shirtless, freshly showered self has me completely unfocused on the topic at hand. I’ll be honest and admit it.

As of this AM, at least for me, the forum is back up and running. If you are unable to reach it, the new DNS has not yet propagated to your ISP. This process generally takes 24 - 72 hours (often faster), so check back often. It is possible over the next couple days there will be some limited down time, just due to the processes the host company needs to follow when powering up additional servers.
Zetaboards support has been posting the following on several sites.
This [Saturday] evening at 4:55pm CDT in our H1 data center, electrical gear shorted, creating an explosion and fire that knocked down three walls surrounding our electrical equipment room. Thankfully, no one was injured. In addition, no customer servers were damaged or lost.

This is getting really disappointing. When you have your best pitcher going, against a well sub .500 team you really expect to win, really. But, Huddy didn’t really have his best stuff, a defensive let down, a wild pitch and the game gets out of hand. Luckily, we are headed back home where things are better, but if we want to compete for the division, we are going to have to get this “away” monkey off our back.

I don’t think we can take a June Swoon this year. Anyway, this video is Ububba’s fault.

Yesterday was a horrible loss and a one-run loss at that, making that 20-straight one-run losses on the road. We haven’t won a game in extra-innings this year either. Hopefully Huddy can go out today and get a win against rookie Johnny Cueto and stop our road woes from deepening even further.
