As a rule, if you are bringing in a 35-year-old third baseman to take the place of your utility infielder, you’re doing something wrong. Norton isn’t a bad player, or wasn’t — he may be done — but he is a bad fit for a roster that already has Ruben Gotay and Brayan Pena and doesn’t have a backup shortstop. Norton is a good fill-in type player in a corner spot; his career batting average is just .253, but he’ll walk (.337 OBP) and has some power (.427 SLG).

Braves were busy for a team that has an off day. Well, it seems Martin Prado will be spending the next 6 to 8 weeks wearing a cast on the injured hand. It seems he has a grade 1-2 sprain and it will require him to wear a cast. He was officially placed on the 15 DL by the Braves.

Okay, well we all know how the starting pitching has gone this season, and now with a bunch of injuries especially to one of our aces Smoltz, we need to reassess the situation. Who do we have? Who can we bring up? Who can we trade for?

Everybody rest up, you won’t get much of a chance from here on in, thanks to the schedule monkeys. Blaine Boyer, this goes double for you.

Like my title says, if yesterday is an indication of what’s to come with this team, then it will surely be welcomed with open arms. The offense finally woke up and let’s hope they keep it that way against the up- and-coming mediocre series ahead with San Diego and Pittsburgh. It’s really nice to finally see this lineup clicking on all cylinders and showing off how much of a threat and dangerous offense they can be. It’s really nice to see Mark T. and KJ heating up as well, even though Mark was hit-less in yesterday’s offense awakening. Mark T. and KJ seem to make things flow better when they are on. Mac keeps hitting and will only improve with runners on base, as he showed yesterday that he can and will produce in key situations. Kotsay is exceeding expectations and that’s a good thing.

The Atlanta Braves are glad to be back at Turner Field, as they completed a three game sweep of the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday, by a score of 14-7, improving to 11-4 at home this year(They are 4-11 on the road.)

Last few nights the Braves won largely due to their pitching. That wasn’t the case today, today the bats did all the work. They pounded out 19 hits, drove in 14 runs, 6 doubles and 2 home runs. That is what is known as an offensive onslaught. Now they need to keep it going.

Our injury riddled pitching staff got a big boost last night from Huddy, and Reyes did everything he could to try and keep up. Of course, Reyes’s work cannot be overshadowed by the bats coming to life. If we get pitching like this every game and hitting like this every game… Well, we just won’t lose anymore games this season.

Yesterday’s complete-game shutout, while not a one-run win, was sufficiently impressive that I am posting a song that doesn’t want me to drive spikes through my eardrums.

Say it with me now, “this is the Hudson we need, this is the Hudson we need, this is the Hudson we need.” Braves had a nice little outing tonight, the bats were a little anemic, but with the way Huddy was dealing, it didn’t matter.

Now, I am sad the Richmond Braves are leaving. I hadn’t been to a game since high school, when I went quite a bit, but I really enjoyed it. “The Diamond” while isn’t the state of the art stadium it once was, its still an awful nice place to watch a game. But with a crowd so small you could pretty much count them, it not a surprise they are leaving.

Just what the Braves needed from Tim Hudson, a pitching gem. He came out and gave one heck of a pitching performance. He threw a complete game for the Braves. Yes, this is the same Tim Hudson who had struggled the last 2 out of the last 3 starts.

A mixture of conventional reasons for the rise in strikeouts and my own thoughts:
A. Batters aren't taught as much to "just make contact" with two strikes - there' s much less going the other way, defensive hitting, etc. Hardly anyone chokes up to punch a ball over the infield on 0-2 anymore. Getting a strikeout in the old days was something like beating an enemy in RPG who's constantly guarding; you can do it, but it takes forever and you wish you could have just used some magic to finish them off. (Walter Johnson chanted the spell of HURTMORE. *flash of glorious NES light* The George Sisler took 50 damage. Thou hast done well in defeating the George Sisler. Thy experience increases by 40. Thy GOLD increases by 197.)

While many people are already panicking and it’s just May 1st, I’ve been thinking of some possibilities that might help out the team. Of course, not all of these are my ideas, so I won’t take credit for them. These are just possibilities that the team could think about doing over the course of this season. Some of these suggestions are not meant to be taken seriousily, by the way.

The Braves may be relieved that they won't have to face the Washington Nationals again until July, as the Nationals took a 13 inning affair yesterday, by a 3-2 score, and now have taken 5 of 8 from the Braves this season.
