Its going to be really hard to win games when you leave 13 (15 total) runners on. The Pirates did everything they could to let us win this game. They walked six Braves. They allowed eight hits. They even went so far as to commit four errors. With all this help, how many runs do you think the Braves managed to push across? None. That’s right, none. How does a team commit four errors without allowing an opponents to cross the plate? The Braves need to get this stick out of their… well you know, when it comes to away games.

With yesterday’s rainout, we’re going to try to fit in a twin bill today with Pittsburgh since we do not see them again this year. From 12 pm to 7 pm, there’s a 50-60% chance of rain in Pittsburgh, so we might be lucky to get in one game today. Hopefully we can manage two and won’t have to sacrifice a much-needed off day later in the year.

Before the Braves start they're double-header, in honor of Mother's Day
here's a story about Yunel Escobar and his mother. If anything it should open up our eyes and help us realize that living in the US of A ain't so bad....... no matter how many road games the Braves lose.
Any Braves fan I've known has been patently scared when Cox sends for a reliever. (My best friend had to leave the room every time Chris Reitsma pitched because if he watched Reitsma would lose...) I decided to test whether the panic was justified in the Mazzone era off two main considerations: bullpen ERA relative to the league and bullpen W-L records. There's not a whole lot to say about the starters except that they led the NL in ERA from '92 to '02, which is utterly ridiculous. Sometimes it was by a full run over league average, which is utterlier ridiculous or utterly ridiculouser. Anyway, to the rankings (loss rankings are ordered fewest to most losses, so tied for second is good):

I hereby predict: Royce Ring, 2 G, 2/3 IP.
Normally I wouldn’t post a video unless it were baseball related (with exception of the previous End of Ze World video), but I always seemed to think the Mother’s Day episode from Full House, and yes, I watched the show growing up and still watch reruns of the show on ABCFamily, was so cute! Especially the part with the Mother’s Day song. Observe below:

Okay, here’s an Eric Clapton video with Phil Collins in it.
This is getting really annoying. We leave Atlanta, play some of the worst teams in baseball, and get our heads handed to us. Its just not right! The Pirates have the worst ERA in the NL, and we only manage two runs per game? That is just unacceptable. In order to challenge for the post season, we must beat up on the lousy teams.

What is it when the Braves leave the friendly confines of Turner Field where they have a winning record of 13-4 and hit the road? Unfortunately, not even I can understand why the Braves are struggling on the road.

Here is some Hall & Oates. Again, I like Hall & Oates, but they made some really bad videos.

Oh well, it was a good streak, but all streaks need to come to an end (I guess). As long as this isn’t the start of another lengthy losing streak, no harm done. I’m a little disappointed for Glavine, another great outing and nothing to show for it.

Tyler Yates is 2-0 with a 3.45 ERA. Meanwhile, Chris Resop is Chris Resop.
With the team on a six-game win streak, I say let’s do our best to keep it going. Today we start a four-game series against the Pirates in Pittsburgh and I’m sure it hasn’t been quite long enough to forget the first time we saw them at home. We have Glavine on the mound tonight for us facing Ian Snell. Glavine still has yet to pick up a win and his last outing wasn’t that great considering it was a Reds massacre or there about. Let’s hope he has his stuff tonight and can notch his first win of the season.

Yes folks, that is not a misprint. The Braves came home and took care of business. They went 6-0 against the Reds and Padres. Everyone from top to bottom of this order help to get to 6-0 and now they head on the road to Pittsburgh where they face their old friends, Adam LaRoche and Tyler Yates, Friday-Sunday.

Wow. That’s really all there is to say about the streak we are on. We have it all working, we are even getting lucky breaks every now and again. This was a game that really could have gotten out of hand. The Braves were down 1 - 4. Not one, but two pitchers were pulled early due to injuries. The bats spent the early part of game quiet. But, when it was all done, with one out in the ninth the Braves finally pushed the winning run across.

This video, by the way, was played by MTV approximately 7.2 million times during my teenage years. I was scarred for life.

We seem to be hitting on all cylinders at the moment. The starting pitching, even with the injuries has been great. The bullpen has been solid. Even the bats are starting to hit consistently. If it weren’t for four double plays, this game wouldn’t have been close. I know I’m sounding a little Pollyanna right now, but we are on a great streak and we need to ride it as long as we can.

With the news that Soriano is getting an MRI and that Gonzalez had a “minor setback”, we actually need Smoltz in the pen. The closer role is cursed, I tell you — cursed!

Braves Report — published on May 7th, 2008
Not necessarily the best Brave of all-time, Jeff Blauser was at least interesting. Honestly, the reason I picked him to do this article was that someone mentioned his name in an article I read about a week ago, and it made me nostalgic for the mid-‘90’s. Known primarily for having quite a bit of power for a shortstop, Blauser was a solid contributor for the Braves for 10+ seasons.

That was some fun baseball to watch. You have great pitching from Jurrjens, you have great hitting from the bats, you even had some great defense sprinkled in there for good measure. Hopefully this isn’t another “hot streak” that leads to another “disappointing streak”. I really believe this is the “real” Atlanta Braves, we need to see more of this team.

Everyone is dropping like flies and getting injured. What are they drinking/eating in that clubhouse? Whatever it is, they need to find it and get rid of it before the whole team catches on. According to Yahoo’s injury list, these are the following on the DL:
