Game 37

We won on the road. Doesn’t it feel good just to say it? We won on the road. Hopefully, this unblocks whatever mental block the Braves had and we can quit this Jekyll/Hyde home/away dichotomy. Anyway, we won six, then lost three, if we keep that going the rest of the season, we’ll be fine. But, I still worry that this team isn’t doing the “little things” right. Everyone seems to want to be the hero, no one wants to hit to the right side to get the runner over. Everyone seems to want to hit a home run, when a sac fly will do. But, a win is a win, and I will take it, even if it comes against the woeful Pirates.

Game 36

Its going to be really hard to win games when you leave 13 (15 total) runners on. The Pirates did everything they could to let us win this game. They walked six Braves. They allowed eight hits. They even went so far as to commit four errors. With all this help, how many runs do you think the Braves managed to push across? None. That’s right, none. How does a team commit four errors without allowing an opponents to cross the plate? The Braves need to get this stick out of their… well you know, when it comes to away games.

Rainout Probably Not The Best Thing

With yesterday’s rainout, we’re going to try to fit in a twin bill today with Pittsburgh since we do not see them again this year. From 12 pm to 7 pm, there’s a 50-60% chance of rain in Pittsburgh, so we might be lucky to get in one game today. Hopefully we can manage two and won’t have to sacrifice a much-needed off day later in the year.

Belated Mother’s Day Story

(from left) his mother, Mariluz Almenares, sister Yunay and wife Minerva.

Before the Braves start they're double-header, in honor of Mother's Day here's a story about Yunel Escobar and his mother. If anything it should open up our eyes and help us realize that living in the US of A ain't so bad....... no matter how many road games the Braves lose.

A bunch of bull…pen

Any Braves fan I've known has been patently scared when Cox sends for a reliever. (My best friend had to leave the room every time Chris Reitsma pitched because if he watched Reitsma would lose...) I decided to test whether the panic was justified in the Mazzone era off two main considerations: bullpen ERA relative to the league and bullpen W-L records. There's not a whole lot to say about the starters except that they led the NL in ERA from '92 to '02, which is utterly ridiculous. Sometimes it was by a full run over league average, which is utterlier ridiculous or utterly ridiculouser. Anyway, to the rankings (loss rankings are ordered fewest to most losses, so tied for second is good):
