Game 15

I really don’t know where to begin with this game. Do you lead with Chipper? But, that wouldn’t be fair to Smoltz. Of course, if you lead with Smoltz, it’s not fair to Chipper. So, the story of this game was the two ROCKS of the Braves organization. Chipper/Smoltz, Smoltz/Chipper? It really doesn’t matter. If two Braves players are going to carry the team, it’s probably going to be those two.

Endless April road trip almost over game thread: Braves at Marlins, April 17

Watch this game go five hours with three rain delays and 13 pitchers.

“I’d call it the trip from hell so far.”

This roadtrip has not gone our way at all. Injuries, one run losses, very little offense, very little bullpen pitching is the gist of it. Like Chipper said last night during Braves Live, no one is being consistent right now. We left the home stand feeling pretty well because we had beat the Mets, but it turns out, now we’re just counting down the days until we go back home, which is down to tonight. I’m sure the players are happy about that. But it really shouldn’t matter where they’re playing; the way we’re playing right now is just horrible. There’s really no excuse, but something has got to give somewhere.

Game 14

Well, at least I got a lot of work done during this game. This is getting to be a really frustrating. The Braves are becoming masters of falling behind and almost coming back. Anyway, the Braves did score 5 runs, but never managed to hold a lead for more than half an inning. Still, at least the Braves showed signs of life, I guess…

The Marlins are essentially ripping everyone off game thread: Braves at Marlins, April 16

The Marlins have a real racket going. Minimal payroll, lots of revenue sharing = profit no matter what they do. This never would have happened if George Steinbrenner were alive.

Game 13

These recaps are far more fun to write when the Braves are on the winning side. But then, those games are more fun to watch as well. I’ve said it before, I think we are going to see more of this until either, Tex hits or our batters stop swinging at everything. They need to work the count, choose the pitches they swing at. Not just decide to swing. If they do that, the opposing pitcher may tire out, and we might get an opportunity to score some runs.

History of the Braves: Eddie Mathews

For many years, Eddie Mathews was considered, and actually is still considered by some, to be the best third-baseman ever. I chose to write about him today because on April 15, 1952, Eddie made his major league debut for the Boston Braves. He’s almost a forgotten man in Braves lore among fans, so let me tell you a story.

Braves Hurting For Pitching?

According to MLBTR, we’re currently hurting for pitching and need to make a deal soon or we might as well call it quits. They list who is available for the Braves to consider. Are we really hurting that bad? One, we don’t know the verdict on Glavine and if he doesn’t feel any worse than he did Sunday, some find it a non-worrisome injury. Glavine apparently said himself, “they better not,” be putting him on the DL without his knowledge, but he’s not ruling the possibility out if it will end up hurting the team. Two, yeah, we’ve lost Hampton, but he was an added bonus at the time. Everyone was almost expecting something to go wrong with Hampton with the backup depth we acquired in case something did happen to his fragile self. Three, Smoltz is Smoltz and while he is getting older, he is still making every effort he can to pitch when his time roles around. As he said, he has a lot of pitching left in him and he’ll know when he can’t pitch anymore. But let’s not push it, Smoltz isn’t 20-something anymore. Four, why would we spend money or give up a player on someone else that we really don’t need unless one of our other pitchers are lost with an injury, which hopefully doesn’t happen.

Catching up

Now that I know that people will continue to ask about these posts until I complete them :-), here we go. It's about the '82 Braves because all 5 players requested were on the team and they can be discussed somewhat together.

Game 12

Enough is enough. Seriously. Of our 7 loses, one, ONE has has been by more than one run. If this team is going to be successful, that stat is going to have to change. Of course, we need our pitchers to be healthy, our relievers to be effective and Tex to start hitting. If any one of those three happens, we’d probably lose less one run games.

Didn’t complete the sweep

This loss was tough to take on two levels...Tommy G. went out in the 1st inning with a strain right hammy and we lost another 1 run game. Considering we were down 5-0 going into the 6th inning then we mounted the comeback.

Poor Atlanta?

I happened to open my browser just now and stumbled upon an article written about America’s Top 10 Miserable Sports Cities from Forbes.com. For some reason, they have Atlanta ranked as #1 and have a lot included about the Braves in this said article. Here is what the article mentions about the city’s history of sports in Atlanta:

Finally an off day tomorrow game thread: Braves at Nats, April 13

A scheduled off day, that is.

Game 11

Finally, we got to see that high octane offense we’ve heard so much about.  The bats showed up in a big way, Frenchy’s in particular.  I think it goes without saying, if we score this many runs every game, we should win a few.  But, after all we were playing the nationals, lots of runs are to be expected.

Another Win for the Braves.

After a 91 minute rain delay, the game got under way and it did in a big way for the Braves. It seems our bats have unthawed from the cold of Colorado. With 1 run in, Frenchy steps to the plate with Chipper and Tex on, he takes the Nationals pitcher deep to LF for a 3-Run Blast.

Braves extend Nats losing streak

What a pitching performance by Tim Hudson!!!! The bullpen essentially got the night off, which I think was long over due. Huddy was in and around the plate all night long. He went 8 strong and I mean STRONG innings for us. He had a couple of innings where he threw only 9 pitches so that helped to extend him. The defense behind him came up big on a couple of plays and his catcher, Brian McCann even helped out by throwing out a runner attempting to steal. McCann is now 2 for 2 in throwing out runners at 2B.
