Braves win their 1st one

Jair Jurrjens took the mound in his 1st of many appearances as an Atlanta Brave. He looked good on the mound early. He had his change up and fastball working tonight. He broke at least 5 bats with his fastball breaking like it was. I for one was very impressed with Jair's performance. He went 5 1/3 innings, striking out 5 and walking only 1. He allowed 7 hits and 2 runs before he was taken out by Bobby when he got into some trouble in the 6th inning but the bullpen came in and did the job. Got a little shaky but they shut the door and didn't allow any runs.

Game 3

The Braves got one in the win column tonight and they did it in a big way. All spring we heard about the high powered offense we were going to have. We heard about the big switch hitters in the middle, followed by McCann and Frenchy. We heard how many runs we were going to score. Tonight, we saw that happen. The Braves bashed out 10 runs on 13 hits. A pretty impressive night.

The Unbalanced Schedule

As the season begins, it becomes time to wonder about the schedule. Who do we play? When? When I begin to ask these questions, I often ask myself about the unbalanced schedule. Under this form of the schedule, the team would play each of its division opponents 18 to 19 times a year while they play teams from the other divisions 6-9 times a year. In the Braves’ case, they play the Mets, Phillies, Nationals, and Marlins 18 times and then play teams like the D-Backs, Cardinals, Cubs, Padres, and Rockies 6-9 times with 6 being most common. Then, the rest of the games are split up into a few series for inter-league games against one division of the AL. My question now becomes if the unbalanced schedule is a good idea. I’ll give you both sides of the argument, and then, because I despise the unbalanced schedule, I’ll give some other options. As always while reading, make your own judgments on how you feel.
